Considerations for Starting a Home-Based Business

Home-based business owners are increasing every year. They are CEOs, presidents, the board-of-directors, simply put, “the boss” of their businesses all-in-one. Unlike employers of other companies, every action they take affects their business in particular, the bottom line or ROI. That includes investment of time, money, family responsibility and business sustainability, which includes financing, budget, marketing, advertising, customer relationship and suppliers; maintaining production of services and products and keeping accurate records.

Running a home-based business can become overwhelming, and many aspiring business owners go out of business in less than a year. Does the prospect of working from home sound too good to be true? Well, it shouldn’t. Almost everyone can restructure or change their working life so that they can work at home, either full or part time, for employer, freelancer, affiliate, or independent.

This major life change may take patience, creativity, and a little sacrifice, but before long, you could be commuting from the kitchen to your office, a cup of coffee in your hand and the sun shining through your window.

What considerations or profile is needed to start a home-based business:

  • Description of the business – describe activities involved in conducting the business task
  • Start up costs and financing sources – estimates what it will cost to get a business going and suggests financing options
  • Marketing and advertising methods – the degree of success you enjoy in business is directly related to your ability to continually attract new customers and keep existing customers
  • Essential equipment – list the basic materials you need to start and run your business, such as computers, internet service, printers, ergonomic furniture, etc.
  • Skills, training and experience needed – describe the knowledge or background needed, experience and skills you may possess for the business and those skills you need to acquire
  • Type of business – lists whether it’s an in-home or out of home (meaning you have a home office, you work away from home) business.

People work from their homes for many reasons: unemployment, low salary, high cost of day care, difficulty finding a job, both spouses work to maintain a medium standard of living, single mom, no control over work schedule, etc.

Make a plan; it’s your key for success to achieve your goal. Your road to success requires planning. You must make plans, think about them, and act on them. Action is essential to success as a motor and fuel are to an automobile. A major purpose well-stated is half-achieved, restate your major purpose in the progressive tense, action seals the habit of succeeding and eliminates:

  • Inability to concentrate on what is important
  • Loss of faith in yourself
  • Clinging to the status quo
  • Lack of organization
  • Stagnant mind set – custom is king (though it shouldn’t be)
  • Failure to evaluate yourself

The ultimate formula for home businesses or any business to succeed is really quite simple. What is that? A marketing system for autopilot lead generation ensures long-term success. Here are six reasons why:

  1. Generate quality leads consistently and economically
  2. Convert as many of those leads as possible into sales
  3. Ensure that you delight your customers so they’ll be pre-disposed to buy from you again and recommend your business to others
  4. Repeatedly sell refills, replacements and other products to your family of existing customers
  5. Ask customers to refer you to others who may want the same benefits
  6. Keep going back to step #1 and repeat the pattern again

Though a home-based business may lead to a more hectic home life, home-based businesses have the important element of flexibility not usually found in a 9-5 job. Home-based business owners can tailor businesses to fit the needs of customers as well as their family needs. Truth is, many home-based businesses are mobile in recreational vehicle offices on the scenic routes making hundreds, thousands, and millions of dollars a year. They have the freedom to work in their offices at any hour; run their businesses according to their philosophies; and pursue any opportunity or destination they prefer. A Chinese proverb says, “Journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.” But in what direction? Plan your direction.

When the goal is clear, the purpose is strong; the steps will be decisive, assertive and forceful. Direction and determination decide destiny. Before you open for business or begin to advertise, check with your local authorities about having a home business, your state regulations and licensing requirements. Your regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will also have information about your state’s business regulations.

Your key for personal success is persistence because persistence produces results. You can be a successful home-based business entrepreneur.

5 Entrepreneur Tips For A Successful Home-Based Business

The internet has made the world smaller and has brought billions of people closer. As a result, people, wherever they may be in the world, can interact and enter into deals without borders. Thanks to the World Wide Web, the next big transaction is just a click away.

Since the internet offers lots of opportunities, people are thinking of starting an online business. They want to know the ins and outs of a home based business, which they will apply once they have their own soon. Surprisingly, they shift careers and resign from their corporate jobs to work at home. Why is this so? It’s because they have time to spend with their kids, chase their passion, take trips abroad, and the list goes on.

You can be one of them too. Because you’re not tied to your job, you can do all these things and work according to your preferred schedule.

Freelance writing, online surveys, searching the web, selling your products, and reviewing websites and apps are just a handful of the best ways to make money online. When the time comes that you’re an expert in your field, you can be a business coach or run a small business consulting. Aside from these things, there are also varied passive income ideas online that can add to your income without having to put too much effort.

If you see yourself starting an online business, read the following tips.

1. Know the business you’re about to enter.

Before running the business and enticing people to buy your products, you must study first about the several home business ideas. You should do some research on the business you want to get your hands on to determine whether the industry is already crowded with competitors. You should also be well-informed about the trends of the market and the demands of the consumer. Knowing things about your business is winning half the battle.

2. Ask for help.

No man is an island and so you can’t do it all alone. Maybe, you can do it all by yourself for now. However, once your business expands, you will need all the help from other people.

3. Practice professionalism.

Working at home doesn’t require you to wear business clothes. You can even work in your pajamas. But please, don’t commit the mistake of flaunting your pajamas in front of your clients. When you’re having a Skype meeting, maintain professionalism by dressing properly.

4. Make people notice you.

You should stand out especially if the competition is stiff by advertising your business and products. You can’t get away with marketing strategies because these things will make or break your small business consulting, for instance. Besides, money won’t be an issue because you can advertise online free of charge.

5. See the good side in everything.

Train yourself to be optimistic. You will have lots of challenges when pursuing your home business ideas. But this should not hinder you to achieve financial freedom. Be patient and your business will succeed eventually.

Home-Based Business Ideas – Do’s and Do Not’s

When thinking about starting a home-based business the idea seems so exciting at first. You can stay home, get up when you want, work in your pajamas, and have a flexible schedule to work when you want. The drawback to this scenario is that many times you start working at home and soon become disgusted because you are not bringing in the money you though you would or you cannot find something that you like to do. A home-based business can cover many jobs like freelance services, wedding planner, pet care, childcare services, survey taking, etc. With this venture there are many “do’s and do not’s” that you should think about before giving up your real job.

• For a home-based business to be profitable you may have to invest some money so make sure that you live frugally until it starts to show a profit. Take care of your basic needs but do not spend money on frivolous items.

• Research and study about the venture you want to undertake to make sure that you understand what will be required of you to succeed.

• Have faith in yourself but be aware of your competitors, especially if your home-based business involves a website and items you are making to sell online. Make your items unique so they will stand out from the competition. Check out some of the websites of your competitors to see what they are doing right.

• Decide on the space where your home office or workspace is going to be in your home. It could an extra room, in the basement, etc. If you have children make sure that they know to stay out of that area.

• Take some classes in the field you are considering working in.

• Make sure that whichever home-based business you start you have at least some knowledge of the business and it is something you like to do.

Do Not’s

• Make sure that you do not leave your current job until your home-based business is established and starting to earn a profit. In the mean time you will just have to work around your regular job.

• Do not risk everything, especially if you have a family. If you have a savings account discuss with your spouse just how much you can afford to spend on your new venture and then work around that budget.

• Do not trust junk mails or spammed emails that promise you that you are going to make millions of dollars, or even a hundred dollars, within hours of signing up with the program.

• Do not become impatient because it can take time for a home-based business to start to show a profit.

5 Steps To Growing A Successful Home Based Business

Do you have the dream of establishing your own thriving business? A business that you can run from the comfort of your own home or one that is completely location independent?

Perhaps you already have an existing home based business that hasn’t quite caught any traction and you would like to take that project to inspiring new heights and difference making, yet maybe you feel a bit stuck and unable to turn that vision in your head into daily concrete reality.

Either way, if you have are an individual who’s already walking this path of entrepreneurship and desire to create better results within your business, these 5 ideas that I want to share with you will help increase your clarity and show you effective steps that you can take starting now.

I know the journey of being an entrepreneur is no light task and it can be even more challenging if like me, you didn’t get much formal education or any business experience prior to taking this bold move of seeking your own freedom.

If you have a dream for your business but aren’t sure how to attract the money, resources and the opportunities that you require to take your ideas from imagination into material reality, here are 5 steps that I believe will certainly do wonders if applied diligently.

They have proven very practical and effective for this former slum girl and despite the fact that my entire world screamed ” it’s impossibile” especially in the realm of becoming independently wealthy, I have certainly demonstrated that nothing is impossible for the one who believes and takes right action.

Test them out with great diligence and I am certain you will experience the same if not more…

1. Get crystal clear on the vision you have for your business.

In our current economy, knowing that you want a business that will make you money and give you huge profit margins isn’t enough.

I am not saying that you shouldn’t have money goals but I am insisting that this become your secondary drive and certainly not your intention for starting the business. Instead what you want is to have more clarity on the difference you want the business to make for your clients and the world.

Did you get that?

Focus your intention and attention on the difference you want to make in the lives of your clients and the world.

Don’t make your main emphasis what you will get, how you will benefit or how your family will benefit. This is well and good but I promise you, unless you set this aside and allow it to be the natural effect or consequence of you “giving” something of great value to those that you serve, the struggle for prosperity and a business that thrives will continue.

So, start putting your attention and intention on the difference your business can bring to your consumers, clients and the world in general. Start falling in love with that and what you will notice is that you’ll start attracting resources and support to come and aid you in that.

This kind of attraction is what you need to help produce your big idea but it never happens when we spend our attention and intention focused on our personal objectives alone.

2. Get a mentor

You really want to get yourself a mentor or two. Individuals who resonate with you, that you respect and admire and people who can show you how to navigate many of the obstacles that this adventure will present.

Without at least one mentor whom you know has gone through that challenging path and has created the kind of success you would like, it’s going to be really tough for you to keep going when the going gets tough.

One of the best things about getting a mentor is the fact that many of the excuses and problems that might keep you stuck will just not impress him/her. So whether it’s a money issue, fear or whatever kind of obstacle you might be feeling overwhelmed by, you mentor is the one that helps you gain right perspective and helps you to move past the obstacles because almost always, if you keep moving forward those obstacles disappear.

I recommend you make an effort to get at least one mentor who’s overcome things, who pushed through and went for what they wanted even when everyone else said they couldn’t do it.

You want that person/s to stand with you and to be willing to help you navigate that distance between where you want to be and where you currently stand.

3. Surround yourself with the right people

In my private community I refer to this as the mind & money green house. You want to check yourself into a nice little green house where people can support you and everyone carries the right energy.

This can be a local entrepreneurs community, an online community for entrepreneurs or private masterminds that are specifically targeted for like-minded individuals who know how to nurture and incubate their desires and goals. In other words, start hanging out with winners!

It’s easy to find people who are complaining and drowning in negativity. It’s also easy to find forums, social groups and so on, that might be entertaining but never really help move you forward.

I like hanging out with people like me who are daring, those who aren’t afraid to dream big and risk big. Those who had nothing except great passion and the courage to start up ideas that the world considered impossible.

I love hanging out with people who aren’t afraid to stretch their thinking and challenge impossibility and what I know is that when you place yourself in such an environment, your life and business can’t help but expand.

4. Educate yourself

This may not seem like something crucial to mention when talking about tips for growing a successful business, but I can assure you that your business success will be in direct proportion to the degree of education you give yourself. Now, this isn’t about formal education as that has nothing to do with educating yourself.

I am talking about the kind of education that will grow you mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I am talking about the education that will help you transform and come into better alignment with your own nature.

You want to grow yourself mentally and spiritually if your desire is to enjoy prosperous living and self-education is the best way of attaining that result.

We live in a universe where material manifestations have intoxicated us so much even though we now know that they are all just effects. Your business will never outgrow your mind and the state of your consciousness.

So if you want a more thriving business, you must learn how to shift your mind and your state of consciousness.

Although all the abundance and prosperity is infinitely supplied to us here on earth, we have to individually claim our inheritance consciously before it can flow into our reality. There is an art to transformation and connecting with this infinite supply. You can learn how to make this your new lifestyle, but it requires some unlearning of the old patterns of thought and retraining of your mind.

5. Start where you are now and use what you have

Our universe rewards action and if you want to start generating some new momentum, you need to start moving some new energy in your life. Being stagnant is the best way to self-destruct your business and breed fear and failure.

You must learn how to use the little that you have no matter how insignificant it may seem to you.

Use it freely, to the best of your abilities and you’ll see that ideas will start coming to you. Money, resources, new people and new opportunities will start flowing into your experience.

So learn to use the little you have because I know there must be something you can do right where you are; there’s got to be something you have right now…

Use it wisely, make sure it falls into alignment with your vision because when you do what you can with what you have, it puts you in a state of harmony and alignment with the universal laws that govern success.

That’s where luck, magic and coincidences come from! But they will only come through if you start putting yourself in that state of harmony now.

It’s Not Too Late For Me To Start A Home Based Business

Life doesn’t end after reaching your peak. It’s not the end of the rope. You still have a lot of doors and windows of opportunities to be unlocked and opened. One of which is starting an online business.
If at this point in your life, you want to make a higher salary or wish to find a new career, running your own business may do the trick for you. No matter how old you are, it’s not too late to begin a home based business.

To inspire you in making your home business idea into a reality, I’m listing down some of the famous personalities, who commenced their empire after hitting 50.

1. Gordon Bowker

Together with Jerry Baldwin and Zev Siegl, Bowker founded the world’s largest coffee chain, Starbucks. Because of him, we can have our daily fix of cappuccino, macchiato, and frappuccino in tall, grande, and venti sizes.

At 51 years old, Bowker got inspired to open Starbucks after meeting someone, who earned so much money by selling coffee.

Currently, Starbucks has 23,043 stores around the world with more than 60 million customers lining up weekly.

2. Colonel Sanders

I bet you already know this guy. Sanders is responsible for super delicious chicken everyone is craving about. He is the founder of one of the biggest fast-food chain in the world, KFC.

He was already more than 60 years old when he decided to open his first franchise, which carried his signature chicken recipe “Kentucky Fried Chicken.”

At present, KFC has more than 18,000 outlets in 115 countries. It continues to expand to different territories so that more people could experience its savory chicken.

3. Charles Flint

Flint is the man behind the establishment of Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company, which is the forerunner of IBM in 1911. During this time, he was already 61 years old.

Now, IBM is one of the largest and the most profitable computer company in the world.

4. Ferdinand Porsche

Porsche founded the luxury car company, Porsche, in 1931 when he was already 56 years old. One of his first designs was the Volkswagen.

With a net profit of €1.9 billion in 2015, Porsche proves that it is still one of the leading car companies across the globe.

5. Ray Kroc

Kroc is an icon in the food industry. He was first involved with McDonald’s as a milkshake machine salesman in his 50’s. Because he saw a lot of potential in McDonald’s, he bought it in 1961. Eventually, he made it the world’s largest food chain prior to his death at 81.

The stories of Bowker, Sanders, Flint, Porsche, and Kroc show you that age is just a number. You can still do a lot even after 50. As long as you have the willpower and the drive, you can be as successful as or even more successful than these men. Thus, it’s never too late to start an online business.

Building an Online Home Based Business

How do you start building an online home based business?

The opportunity to start building an online home based business has existed since the internet went live, but where do you begin what can seem like a mammoth task?

You have to find the right opportunity, there are lots out there, but everything that glitters isn’t gold. You have to believe in what you’re promoting to others. People like people who are like them or are like they would like to be, so look for people who you want to be like and learn from them.

Choose products and services that you know work and are happy to endorse. A good reputation can take a life time to create and a moment to lose.

People fall in love with the dream and building an online home based business is definitely a dream worth falling in love with.

All dreams start in the place that you need to work on the most, your mind. Anything that’s changed in your life has only ever changed because of the way you’ve thought about it, building an online home based business is no different.

Society works hard to convince us that if we go to school and work hard to fit in then we can graduate, get a great job and have all our needs taken care of much like a child suckles it’s mother’s breast wanting to be cared for and fed.

This idealistic view of life needs to be smashed to pieces. It may be fine for some but if you’re someone looking at building an online home based business it’s totally wrong for you.

Do you have any idea how much employers pay you in relation to how much they make from you?

About 20-40%. Call it what you want but someone making around 60% from your labour in exchange for doing your taxes and telling you what to do doesn’t seem like a great deal to me.

What you do and don’t need for building an online home based business

Persistence – Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your business be. You have to get stuck in and stick with it. Even with the finest training and mentorship in the world you will still need to learn how to apply the knowledge that’s shared with you.

Willingness – We all want things but the difference between those who get them and those just window shop is the willingness to take the necessary steps.

Authority – You have to become an authority, someone who knows what they’re doing and knows what they’re talking about.

Faith – You have to believe it’s possible for you, in spite of what others may think or say about your decision to pursue your dream.

Investment – Very few businesses can start up without any capital but the good thing about getting started online is it’s a relatively low cost venture.

Education – When I say education I’m not saying you have to go to school. But you have to be able to spot an opportunity that’s a real diamond and not a fugazi. You can learn a lot through trial and error but in far less time you can learn from people who are already successfully doing it at the Digital Experts Academy.

School – If good grades were the definition of succeeding in life Richard Branson would be considered a massive failure as he dropped out of school at the age of 16. That’s not to say we’ll all be able to build an empire as large as his, but if we do it will likely come from the lessons we learn outside of a classroom not in one. If you can read and write you’re more than capable of building an online home based business.

Perfection – If you’re expecting to get everything right the first time every time you try something new you’re in for a big surprise. Failure is part of the process and part of you developing your mindset is about learning that. You’re going to mess up, so fail fast and fail forward. Take the lessons that come from what you try that doesn’t work and move on.

Experience – In order to be successful online you don’t need to be a keyboard wizard or have mastered every piece of software on the market or know how all the inner workings of your laptop come together to make the lights blink every time you push the on button. That’s not to say it wouldn’t help but it’s not essential. People have moved to English speaking countries having never spoken one word of the language and through their desire to learn they’ve been able to speak English more fluently than some English people. What you don’t know can be learned you just have to want it bad enough and do what it takes to get what you want.

Location – All you need to be successful is a laptop, internet connection and the willingness to invest in your education. You don’t have to be in a specific place at a specific time, you work wherever you want to work, whenever you want to work.

Most Effective Ways to Start a Home Business

Many people think about doing a home business, but your must first think about what you have a passion to do. That is so important. If you attempt to do a home business you care nothing about, it will show. Believe me if you have no passion it will show. Just having an idea come to the top of your head may not be enough. You want to make sure whatever idea you have isn’t anything more than a hobby.

The worst mistake anyone can make is to quit their present employment in order to start a home business. Even though it may be a business that will take off and have huge potential, you just don’t want to jump out there to soon. You will need a lot of patience as you go into your idea.

Little things you can do to get the feel of a home business you have is connect with someone that is doing that same business. Whether it is face to face or networking online. There are many trusted people online that are willing to share. Just be careful because there are many people that like to prey on people online. I am a person that will do what I can to answer any questions related to working from home for those that desire to do so.
